BAPTISM PREPARATION

Each month this team runs a series of meetings to help parents prepare for the Baptism of their children.  Baptism is usually celebrated at twelve noon on Sundays and occasionally at the 10.45am Mass.  The preparation meetings are at 7.00pm on the first and second Thursday of the month.

CHILDREN'S LITURGY

St Dominic's has an active Children's Liturgy.  At the 10.45am Mass we have special provision for children in an attractive and comfortable room adjacent to the church.

ST DOMINIC'S WOMEN'S GUILD

As its name implies this is open to all the women of the parish.  Apart from their social gatherings each Monday evening, they have a Guild Mass on the second Saturday evening of the month and are always available to help in the parish.

ST VINCENT de PAUL SOCIETY

Affiliated to the National SVP, the parish group visits sick and housebound and does what it can to relieve poverty and hardship.

MERCY ASSOCIATES

St Dominic's is fortunate in having Sr Jo Gleeson, a Mercy Sister, living in the parish.  She is involved in many aspects of parish life.  The Mercy Associates are parishioners who are attracted by the Mercy Charism and work with Sister Jo in a variety of activities in the parish.

BEREAVEMENT SUPPORT GROUP

As their name implies, this group offer support to families faced with the sadness of bereavement.  They meet each month and bereaved family members may attend the meeting if they wish.  Each year in November a Mass is organised for the families who have lost members during the past year.  We also have an Open Air Mass each July in Yew Tree Cemetery for all buried in the cemetery.  This attracts a great number of people.

The next July Cemetery Mass is at 3.00pm,

ST DOMINIC'S PARISH CLUB

This has been an important part of the parish from the very beginning.

When the parish opened we only had the little chapel in Yew Tree Cemetery.  The first building to go up was our present Infant School.  The hall was used as a church and also as a Youth Club and Social Club.  In these years we are celebrating the golden weddings of many couples who met at those Youth Club dances.

After the building of the church, a Parish Club was built.  To begin with it was part of the Catholic Men's Society.  Over the years it has grown and is now a very successful Parish Centre.  As well as hosting social events for members it is also available for hire for private parties for birthdays, weddings, anniversaries and for receptions after Baptism and after funerals.

ST DOMINIC'S OVER 50s CLUB

In the Spring of 2003 an active and resourceful lady in the parish, observing that there were elderly people in the area not prepared to venture out to social events at night, was inspired to set up an over 50s Club to meet in the Parish club on Friday afternoons.  It has proved very popular and the membership has grown beyond all expectations.  All tastes are catered for; some just wish to chat with friends over a cup of tea or a drink, whilst the more active enjoy a dance or Tai Chi.

The weekly subscription, together with proceeds from Bingo and raffles, is used for the benefit of the members who have enjoyed very pleasant away days by coach, theatre visits and meals out.  With the unanimous agreement of the club members, regular donations are made to the local Baby Hospice (Zoe's Place), the Children's Hospital Kidney Fund and Life Pregancy Care.

The Over 50's Club is run by the catholic parishioners of St Dominic's but new members of any faith or none living in the area are always welcome.
